As several Asia-Pacific corporates consider acquisitions in more mature markets, Olivier Grandval, corporate treasury manager at PwC Hong Kong, identifies underlying opportunities.

Many Asian companies have their eyes set on targets in Europe and the US, after the year ended with prominent acquisitions. Lenovo Group secured regulatory approval in the US and China to buy IBM’s x86 server business on August 16, for $2.1 billion; while completing an almost $3 billion acquisition of Motorola Mobility on October 31. The year ended with the Singaporean agri-business leader Olam buying Archer Daniel Midlands’ cocoa unit in the US for $1.3 billion.
