Tired of China customs duties? Set up a JV
Retailers' struggles with customs in China can be disruptive, but having an onshore JV can alleviate that, says Aigle’s Asia CFO.

Outdoor clothing retailer Aigle found shelter from the pain of customs duties in China when it set up a joint venture with a local company, its Asian CFO Herve Accart recounted. In 2005, Aigle, which now has operations stretching from Hainan, Urumqi, and Harbin, teamed up with sportswear brand Li Ning to create Aigle China – Aigle’s primary distribution channel in the country.
