Japanese banks are certainly not short of cash to spend. Previously, that money may have been used to buy government bonds, a safe and rather un-banklike approach to making money. But with yields falling and inflation in positive territory, old-school banking is now top of the agenda and Asia is the key market to drive profit, Japan’s top banks executives are claiming.
