Resentment of the economic advantage the US accrues from the dominance of the greenback as a trading currency is not a new phenomenon. It is almost half a century since French finance minister Valery Giscard d’Estaing decried the privilège exorbitant (exorbitant privilege) of the US dollar (USD).
