US trade deficit yawns wider

Analysts were surprised when US trade deficit rose to almost $50 billion. Having digested the news, many have revised lower their annual GDP estimates for the North American nation.

What: The US registered a trade deficit of $48.7 billion last November, considerably higher than analysts' expectation of about $41.3 billion. The deficit is the widest in seven months, with imports growing 3.8% month-on-month.
