Australia is the number one hard coal exporter in the world. With 298 million tonnes of coal exported in 2010, it accounts for nearly one third of the world’s black coal exports (57% of coking coal and 23% of thermal coal exports), according to the International Energy Agency [IEA]. Indonesia follows with 162 million tonnes. Other important players include Russia, Colombia, and South Africa.
