In a nutshell, there are two main components: firstly, the closer we come to the January 1 deadline, the greater the impact on sentiment and by extension, on private investment and consumption. The second component is the impact of any eventual agreement on the fragile US growth outlook: the more tax hikes and spending cuts, the greater the drag on growth.
