The metals giant promotes Elizabeth Gaines, making it just the seventh of Australia's top 100 listed companies with a woman CFO. The evidence suggests a more diverse boardroom can pay off.

Elizabeth Gaines will become CFO of Fortescue Metal Group on February 6, the Australian iron ore company announced on January 17,   Gaines replaces Stephen Pearce, who resigned in September and left at the end of December to take over as CFO at rival Anglo-American.
