An Ernst & Young report kicks off with a simple statistic: Ten years ago just one third of high-profile CFOs had non-executive roles. That percentage has jumped to nearly 50% by 2012.
E&Y has compiled anecdotal evidence suggesting that non-executive board roles for financial chiefs can help further their career. Around 66% of the 800 CFOs polled agree that if they want to move beyond a pure finance function and into more strategic CEO-type positions, they need to broaden their business experience with part-time responsibilities.
